Hello there, just a very short note to let you know we are safe at the Clube
Naval, Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, courtesy of the Brazil Navy.
Some of you will have heard of our dramatic rescue at sea and at our having
to abandon our yacht DALKIRI, some of you were part of that rescue and to
others this news will come as a surprise. When time permits and we find our
land legs again we will fill in the gaps. In brief - a storm at sea caused
us to call for Help on 1st May, and the Brasil sent a Frigate which with its
helicopter rescued us out in the South Atlantic more than 2000 kms from
land. The Navy arrived 5th May and returned with us to Rio 4 days later.
The TV and Press were waiting for us and the Navy's brass band so we made
the news.
To those who had a hand in the rescue a big Thank you, we'll get around to
individual letters when we can, and thank you for the many enquires we have
received concerning our well-being. People have been very kind and rallied
around, supporting us emotionally and keeping us clothed and fed.
We have exceeded the time allowed to stay in Brasil and must exit within 7
days, so not sure what we are doing except we will return soon to South
Africa and will keep you updated.
Oh and to Radio friends, the radio went down with the ship so we will also
be off the air until we can beg, borrow steal another rig.
